I was wondering if any other gardeners in and around the New York area have had particular success with certain dahlias. For Me Kidd's Climax, Midnight Dancer, Sonic Bloom Pineland's Princess are some of the ones that always perform without any trouble. Yet I have planted pom-pom varieies (Frank Holmes, Crossfield ebony) That barely came up, much less flowered. Possibly due to too much compost? or just the variety, I wonder. In addition, the dinner plate ones always seem to succumb before their time. Any suggestions for dependable, vigorous varieties?
