Is anyone else getting their dahlias off to an early start this year? I had good success last year getting earlier blooms by starting the tubers ahead of time in pots and then transplanting them into beds after last frost. This year I'm getting a bit carried away with early starts.

I've run out of pots and now I'm converting misc 1 gallon jugs into pots. By the way, the big jugs of water are thermal mass to help hold heat overnight. When a really cold freeze in the lower 20sF is expected (like tonight) I cover the water jugs and pots with blankets and they stay well above freezing even though the temperature inside the greenhouse may dip a bit below freezing. (I don't have any kind of heater in the greenhouse, just solar heated water.)
