Digging up Dahlias

Posted by susandonb NC 7 (My Page) on

I am in NC zone 7 on the VA border. I am new to Dahlais and want to make a bed just for them. Do they have to be dug up and brought in for the Winter? I only had 4 tubers in my garden last year and I left them in the ground.

Thanks for the help.

RE: Digging up Dahlias

I think you only have to dig them up if the ground freezes. I'm up in NH and would lose them if I left them in the ground. If your ground doesn't freeze, you still want to dig them up every couple of years to divide the tubers.
