| I planted some Dahlia tubers about 6 weeks ago. As of today...nothing. No shoots, nothing. I planted them at the correct depth, right orientation, etc. Should I be concerned? We did have a warm spell, followed by night time temps in the 40's, so I''m not sure conditions are optimal yet for them to emerge. My lilies are doing fantastic...just no Dahlias. The area gets hot mid-day sun for about 5 hours or so, then dappled sun the rest of the day. I don't over water the area. It's on a drip system so it's inevitable that the tubers are going to see some moisture. Hopefully they are not rotted...?
Thanks everyone. Matt |

| Were the eyes showing when you planted them? I think the soil temp needs to be 60 degrees for them to start going. If the soil temp has been below that they could just sit there and rot. Last year I had some no shows and I carefully dug a few up just to check on things. I found that some of them were indeed rotting. If that's the case, you can cut the rotten end off (assuming it is the end part not the eye part), let the open wound dry and put back in the ground. Most would probably spray the open part with something to prevent disease, but I didn't and had some success. Good Luck, |

| FWIW, of my 2007 tubers that sprouted this spring (in flats under lights inside my house) they averaged 47 days from the time I planted them to the day I took my first 3" cutting. The longest was 65 days. So, I would say that 6 weeks isn't too long. Of course you could take a little hand broom and sweep the soil off the top of one of the spots you planted to see if you can find the tips of the sprout to re-assure yourself, but be careful. Cheers, |

| thanks everyone. Soil temps are not yet in the 60's. Mid 50's right now. I check on one of them, and it was not rotten. Yes, the eye was facing up, so that's not an issue. I'll keep watch and pay close attention when the temps start to rise, hopefully in a few weeks. Thanks everyone. Matt |
