Last year I grew: randi dawn vassio meggos brushstroke lemon kiss centercourt seduction ted's choice lauren michele Flower photos here. I also grew clyde's choice because I like orange, but it took FOREVER to get started, and the plant never really produced, so not repeating. This year I'm doing: Anyone grow these?

I'll have Vassio Meggos and Midnight Moon this year, but that is the only overlap with your list. I have jumped from about 35 different dahlias to about 75 this year. It is going to be a long time before I see blooms, but I do have them potted up and sprouting trying to get a head start on the season. Thanks for the link to your blog - very fun and beautiful pics.

75... I am jealous!! I searched your name to see pics-- what is the large purple variety on the far right (second photo down?) http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/load/dahlia/msg0913133930456.html Any posts that show your whole garden?
|
The big purple in the small vase by itself is Formby Kaitlyn - its a stunner, if you like the big ones. Three years ago half my yard was dug up for a new septic system. I am hoping that this year every thing will come together,(maybe?). I have been doing so much rearranging and expansion of beds the past two years that my garden has tended to look like a construction zone most of the time, so I haven't even tried to take many "long shots".

I had a sheer heaven years ago that did nothing so I ditched it. Innocence never grew or bloomed either. Purplicious is a stunner - one of my favorites. It's a workhorse in my yard. Clyde's Choice is a HUGE dahlia and it is my experience with the 10-14"s that they take a little longer to get settled in. I have the very similar Baarn Bounty and was disappointed the first year. Only 4-5 blooms and it seemed to take forever to sprout, grow and bloom. But in the last 2 years, it has increased to maybe a dozen blooms that are long lasting bloomers, even though the whole plant cycle is not nearly as long as say Sept. Morn or Purplicious.

mandolls, 1/2 my yard was torn up 6 years ago for a new septic system, and it still looks like a construction zone. I see quite a bit settled this winter, so I have more repairs to make to certain areas. I hope yours comes together faster for you. Now, back to dahlias...the only one on your list I'm growing is Vassio Meggos. I never give up on a dahlia after only one year...I wouldn't have V.M. if I did--it did awful the first year, but wonderful the 2nd. We'll see this year.
