The gentleman is using wood stakes randomly placed along the edge of his dahlia beds. The netting is Hortonova which is available from Johnny's Seeds. The nice thing is the squares are 12" which when the netting is laid on the ground gives an excellent grid in which to work. It can be used for many years. We have used this method for many years. The downside to using the nedding is that two layers really need to be used. One about a foot above the ground, and layer another higher. If you are using the dahlias for cut flowers it is beyond horrendous. Totally not a pleasure to cut through the netting. This year we are using the method used by tomato growers. I believe it is called the "French tomato weave." It gives better support to the dahlia plants in the bed; and, the feedback we have received is it is very easy to cut the dahlia blooms for cut flowers.
