oops-Didn't divide

Hi all, I was given some Dahlia bulbs last fall by someone who was tired of storing them. I stored them all winter, and recently planted them. They each had several eyes that were growing sprouts when I planted them. Upon further research, and finding some good photos, I realize they were supposed to have been divided! These were big clumps. Do you think anything bad will happen because I planted the undivided clumps? Too late now, but I was just wondering what to expect.

Hi Laura-

For years I didn't divide but just put the huge clumps back into the garden. What you will get is a prolific bloomer--because you have so many eyes.

No oops, you'll be pleased.

Excellent. I just saw yesterday that they are coming up though the ground and look very vigorous!

I assume the research you mentioned was Jroot's and Poochella's postings and photos repectively about spring and fall dividing. They are excellent.

You know Laura, when your friend sees how many tubers you come up with this fall and how compactly one can store them (I tried saran wrap for the first time with success) she may regret giving up those clumps!

Happy blooming.
