The strong UV rays probably fried them.

If they have sprouted inside you need to harden them off before you put them in direct sunlight.

I would keep the soil moist.. not soggy and put them in the shade outside for a few days and then add more sun little by little.

They eyes sould come back in a few days/weeks.

All hope is not lost.

We, who start tubers early start, them under lights inside.

Thanks. I have read so many web stories on dahlias that I have it all mixed up. I planted some yesterday and have put the others back in the cellar. To make it worse is that I do have a grow lite syste, but was using it for plants.

Can you get them in the shade outside? That would also work and then you can gradually give them an hour or two of sun a day until they can handle full sun.

I plant mine in 1020 trays (nursery flats) with 4" of soil. They eye up under lights and then I harden them off outside. Right now they are antsy to get in the ground!

That is exactly what I was doing. I picked the ones that were showing eyes . They were in flats with peat. I had them under lights but nothing seemed to be happening so I took them outside in the nice weather. I must admit it was dry and sunny but I spritzed them twice a day. Who knows???

You can keep the soil moist at this point... just not soggy...

hmmmm... that is odd, they should be doing great.
