Dahlias and sprinklers

I've never grown dahlias, but I'm considering them for a half-barrel tub in our front garden. We are in Central California - HOT - and the tub will get full sun all morning and until about two or three o'clock in the afternoon. I've been told that two things that would be all right in those circumstances are zinnias and dahlias. Our tub has been fitted up with a wonderful little sprinkler system that has a length of narrow hose (branching up from the under-the-mulch drip system that waters our shrubs. So we have two miniature sprinklers, one at either side of the tub (on the inside). To FINALLY get to my question: is a sprinkler setup like that, that runs for an hour at 4 a.m. every other day, likely to cause mildew on dahlias? I have been told that mildew is a possibility with dahlias. Thanks for any advice.
