the heat got her!

we've had some extreme heat the last 3 days and the heat/afternoon sun has gotten to her. i had her under some trees (flowering pear and japanese maple), not in the ground yet though because i just got her from the garden center.

i'm new to dahlias and am wondering what to do with it. its a huge one, over 3 feet in the garden center pot, and there are several bublbs (?) or blooms coming along with several huge flowers. many of the flowers, especially the big ones, have drooped over and are clearly done for. hubby had clipped a few, to my horror!! and i immediately told him to stop til i checked here first.

so do i snip off the done for blooms and how/where on the stem? should i now wait a bit longer to transplant in the ground due to the stress of the recent heat? is there anything special i should do to transplant or just in general?

thanks for your help!

angela
