What to do with leggy dahlias

The weather has been too cold and wet to get them hardened off. My taller dahlias are lanky despite lights. I'v cut them off about 6 inches. Is there anything else besides cutting that I can do? Thanks.

Cutting/pinching should slow the top growth down and produce side shoots which is recommended. Also, you can plant them deep or lay them on their sides when planting, much like tomatoes.
