Dahlia Buds Drying Up

Posted by kimnc7 (My Page) on

Hello, I planted a Dahlia that overwintered in a pot that I bought last fall; it has been growing well and I have had a couple of flowers open already. Today I noticed, however, a couple of the buds have dried or shriveled up and are brown. The dried buds appear on off-shoots of the same base stem that also produced flowers. In fact there is an open flower next to the dried up bud. The other buds on the rest of the plant look healthy. I do not notice anything unusual on other parts of the plant. Is this something to be concerned about? Should I be looking for other signs of trouble? What should I look for?

I'd pull the bud apart and look inside to see if there's a bug or something in there. Is the stem that the dried up bud is on still healthy? Certainly sounds strange.

Cheers,
Russ
