I have several dinnerplate dahlias in pots. They do well there. However, in the winter, you will still need to take them in and prepare them for a nice winter's rest. Check out the forum for lots of ideas about that.

Oh, hi, mehearty. You beat me to it. I'm wondering just how many flowers we're going to see on these plants, given the very late planting. At least I assume it's late. I haven't grown dahlias in years. Beautiful flowers, though.

The Parks link isn't helpful anymore. What did they say about the dahlia collection, do you remember?

BTW, my William Baffin arrived...large but in questionable health. I posted in Roses. We shall see...

I just planted mine. Took advantage of posts from the old garden fence (that is no more). The flowers may be a moot question because at least one of mine was in an alarming number of pieces. Can't look a gift horse in the mouth...
