New Dahlia grower

I bought my first dinnerplate dahlias from Costo as Tubers. Didn't know I was supposed to do anything to them once I put them in the ground. Oh well, now I have about 5 of the 12 that grew. Interestingly, they are at slightly different heights. Also some have a few buds, one has one flower that has popped out and the bushiest has no buds yet, but stands about 2.5' or more in height with a couple of big stalks( I can include px).

So since I'm a "late bloomer" (ha) what can I do at this point to get the most out of these babies? Do you think they grow at different heights because the sun hits differently on either side of the walkway? Or is it the color of the dahlia or maybe the soil is a little different?

Is it too late to pinch them? If they seem crowded, can transplanting be done now or when is the latest it can be done? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Carla
