I'm wondering why my dahlias are blooming so short. Many are only a ft or so. Thomas Edison is only up to my knees and blooming already. With the exception of a few, all my dahlias are usually looking me in the eye when they bloom. They were planted in April.

I don't know why, but mine are all really short too. I have a few buds, but not much height on any of mine and they should all be about 4 ft. We haven't had much rain (none in at least 2 weeks) and have had scorching temps. So that must be it. I'm watering, but it's hard to keep up.

I don't know, I thought I was watering enough. However we had a 6.5" rain on the 4th, and I do notice they have grown a little taller since then. We have really had some unusual weather so far this year. Dahlias usually bloom in the fall here.

Weird... I have had nothing but rain for 1-1/2 months and mine are blooming like crazy some are quite a bit shorter then normal but they quickly kept growing taller and bloomed at normal height again. Mine have twice as many blooms as last year at the same time, with no changes in fert just more rain and weird spring/summer temps. Maybe the warm Spring? Keriann~

Mine are only about 2 feet tall and blooming...there are buds everywhere...I'm thinking it's because of the lack of rain too...it's been over 100 degrees for the past 2 weeks here and we haven't had more than a couple of inches of rain the whole season...I water quite a lot but I know I'm not watering enough to make up for the lack of rain...

I'm watering plenty but having same experience here. Steve S.

I'm jealous! Not one bloom yet. Not even a bud big enough to be close! Best estimate of ETA of first bloom is maybe 10 days. It will be at least a month before I have a significant number of dahlias. But where I live, August - Sept are my best months. Most of my plants are shorter than I would expect. A few bug problems which I'm trying to correct with organically friendly methods. I think I'll be okay, but I'll second the comment about weird weather. Last year was strange too.
