how long does can a dahlia tuber be stored before planting

Hello folks. This is my first time posting in this forum. A friend of mine got a bunch of Dahlia tubers at an end-of-season sale and gifted them to me. It is mid July in Chicago. If I plant them now, I don't know if they will make it to bloom by frost time - can I keep them all the way until next Spring and hope they will still be viable? I already have about 10-12 dahlia plants this year that are starting to set buds.

I just planted a few tubers with sprouts a week ago in zone 7 and they are already double the size. I don't know if you can store til next year so I would probably just plant them and see how far you can get. Even if they don't set buds, if they leaf out the tubers underneath will be growing roots and happy so you will most likely get more tubers at fall.

I had to chuckle, I was going through a box in the basement and I found a bunch of stuff I'd taken out of the ground for storage, not after last season, but after 2012 season. Most everything was desiccated except for two dahlias, which showed sprouts. I planted them. Reminds me, I better go check on them. But yeah, do it yesterday, they might make it. May not bloom, but should give the roots a chance to reconstitute …
