My first year with Dahlias

Well, last year I decided I was going to try my hand at Dahlias. So I ordered from Breck's catalog last fall and this spring planted 4 different kinds of Dahlias. I probably should've amended the soil before planting but I didn't. So my dahlias are smaller than they're supposed to be, but they're still on the pretty side. This fall when I lift the tubers, I will amend the soil a bit. Here is one that bloomed last week and one blooming this week.

Beautiful! How many inches across is the flower?

The top one is 5 inches across. The other is slightly smaller, not by much.

They're lovely! I order from Breck's also and I question their description on bloom widths because my Kelvin Floodlight is always about 10 - 12 inches but the catalog says it's about 9 inches. And Garden Wonder is suppose to be 6 inches but mine are always around 4 - 5 inches. Oh well, at least they bloom I guess.

Beautiful colors. I have Barbarossa for the first time and I look forward to seeing it if it's that pretty. Well done, Butterflymaiden.
