Cutting Back Dahlias

I'm a real newbie when it comes to dahlias. I started them very early in pots and now they are still blooming but the foliage is really looking bad. Is it okay to cut them back (about 6" from the soil line) and if I do, will they come back again this year?

RE: Cutting Back Dahlias

I don't know but, I hope so, a storm yesterday split one of mine straight down the middle. I had to cut it down and am hoping for more shoots to come up in place of the old ones.
I have blooms on a few plants and the leaves are turning yellow and looking scraggley looks like were in the same boat.
Good Luck with Yours!
I hope they keep blooming nicely.

They will come back.
