| I was looking at one of my dahlias today after being away for a few days and noticed these strange marks on the stalk. Any ideas? I thought it might be a borer, but am not sure and don't want to cut the whole thing down if it isn't.
Thanks,

Here is a link that might be useful: Maybe Borer?

| Oh! Well that explains it. I ended up leaving the whole plant alone especially after seeing the same holes in the next plant over. The one in question has now bloomed. I wish I could put up a picture of it because it is really beautiful but apparently that doesn't work well for me. :) -Katy |

| I just thought I'd try again with getting my pictures up here. Even though it looks like it has issues, the plant still went on to bloom. The dahlia next to it in the garden has the same problem and what looks like an almost split (open) stalk but is still starting to bloom a healthy bloom today. | Sorry, they removed what used to be labelled the TAG line. Use the link with **img src...** at the beginning. Now called HTML code on Photobucket. Copy and paste that here as I've done adding your URLs from above. Great shots! Interesting dark nodules down the stem/stalk there. I dont' know what might have caused them, but the flower is wonderful.

| On the first picture it looked like a cluster of eggs in the hole? What happened after that? |

| After those weird holes I just let it be - I figured as long as the rest of it looked healthy I would just see what happened. Then it bloomed as you can see above! |
