Please help me and my dahlias!

I have monster dahlias and they are committing suicide. I moved into my home last August. When I did, there was one dahlia plant already growing, though neglected (empty house) and basically laying on the ground. Even still, the peachy orange blooms were huge! This year, it wintered itself in the ground and came back, so I planted a few more plants along side it. Now, while the other guys are smaller and just now coming into bloom, old orangie is huge! Easily 5'-6' tall with good 6" blooms, 3 heads to one stalk, lots of stalks. I tried tying to the deck slats and staking (which are now far too short), but nothing helps keep the blooms from snapping off under their own pressure. Just today a good 7 blossoms snapped off. What can I do to help this poor thing? Do I need to use 8 foot stakes, or build some kind of scaffolding? Dahlias are my favorite flower, so I'd really like to do better by my plant. Thanks!
