planting out in August?!?

Hi all,

As I do every year, I started my dahlia tubers in pots this spring. Due to unexpected life circumstances, they have not been planted in the ground yet (sitting outside in their pots). Now that life has somewhat calmed down, I'm wondering if it would be totally crazy to try and plant them?

I had resigned myself to the idea that I would throw them in the compost pile and order new tubers for the spring. But I wanted to get some advice on this. If they aren't going to bloom, I'd skip it.

What do you think?
