I am interested in growing the biggest "breed" I can for fun. In Los Angeles what would you suggest?

Swan Islands catalog says Emory Paul can get 12-14 inch blooms as will Maki and that if 'disbudded', Gladiator can reach 14" too.

I'm guessing that if 'disbudded', many 12" dinner plates would also reach 14" as well.

None of my larger Dahlias reach their advertised size because I never dis-bud. I've always preferred quantity of blooms rather than size. However, I was fascinated by a story I read (didn't see the photo) a couple years ago of a Sir Alf Ramsey dahlia that someone grew that supposedly was 17" in diameter. I bought a tuber this Spring but it rotted with all the wet weather we had. I may try again next year. Accent Dahlias has a picture of a Gitts Perfection that is in front of a tape measure pulled out to the 14" mark. It may appear to be larger than it really is since the tape measure is behind. Good luck and please post any photos.

I am growing Kelvin Floodlight and it is 9 inches across with no disbudding. I am sure it would be bigger if I did disbud but it is pretty impressive anyway.

Anyone know of a large dinnerplate type that is a true bright pink (no lavenderish)? I love the yellow one so much that I would like to get a pink and orange one. Seems like I see a lot of them that are big and orange but not so much the pink color. Any suggestions?

There are several true bright pink at our Home Depot right now. I'll see if they have a name on them when I go by today.

Hollyhill Big Pink is a giant dahlia that is pink. It may be a bit hard to find as it is fairly new.

I just googled Hollyhill Big Pink and it is awesome! Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the info.

I just noticed a mistake I made in an earlier post. The dahlia in the Accent Dahlia photo with the 14" bloom is a Penns Gift rather than a Gitts Perfection. Unc
