Winter Storage Bins?

Posted by AnnaA none (My Page) on

Hello All,
I have read a variety of posts re storing tubers over the winter. Has anyone used those wire mesh / jute lined storage bins commonly used to store root vegetables? I am in the Pacific Northwest with mild winters. I thought these bins might promote greater air circulation as I will be storing in my garage. Haven't decided yet on the packing method - plastic wrap vs vermiculite / peat.

Thanks everyone.

I haven't used the bins that you mention, but I imagine that they would work fine. I use milk crates.

I've had great luck with covering the tuber in sulfur and placing them in plastic grocery bags that are loosely sealed. (This method is described at length on the forum.)

Peat is not longer recommended as it tends to dry the tubers.
