Dahlia only bloom only sinlge petals

Some of my dahlias are only blooming out a row of single petals rather than multiple for example my Bodacious is not blooming the multiple petals to make it Bodacious. Are they at the end of their life cycle? Some tubers I just got this year. I kept some in the ground from last year to see if they'd do the same thing and they did, so I pulled them out. What causes this?
Thanks,
Kathy

Did it just happen this fall, as the light and temperatures began to wain? I find that happens every year with a lot of mine. I just figure that is the way they are and enjoy them until that happens. Next year they start off the bloom season just fine. Think of them more like Exotic daisies and they are still pretty.
