Dividing question

Zone 5 (Indiana)

I dug 50 dahlias 14 days after our first hard frost,
cleaned them and have left them on a table in the garage for about 2 weeks. We wanted to pot up some of the new tubers to take cuttings when large enough, but cannot identify an "eye" on anything! We have watched many videos on the procedure on-line and are now just stumped! ; )

We wanted to start about 20 inside and store as many as possible for spring planting. Hmmmmm......

Can anyone give us some guidance at this point?

Thank you in advance for any help. pitt from IN

Well, if your tubers look like this it can be a bit daunting but the eyes are in there somewhere and may take a bit of selective cutting to get to them. Any chance of a picture of yours?

RE: Dividing question

Pitt,
The eyes show 10-14 days after a hard frost and then retreat. Since it's about 4 weeks after a hard frost you probably won't be able to locate them. Last year I stored the whole clumps, brought them out in Feb. and was able to locate the eyes after a period of time (week?).

This year, I washed them and left them on a table outside to dry. After just a couple of days they were beginning to lose their firmness. I'd get them into storage asap.

Thanks for the responses. Mine look just like yours, "tsugajunkie." No pic. : (

I'm going to get them stored away, pronto!
