grow light help

Posted by pdshop 5 (My Page) on

I have a table where I can put the tubers. Now I need to know what advice I could get about which kind of grow lights to use. I would like to raise and lower the lights. I would also like the light long and wide enough to do a big group of tubers? Thanks

I have always had good success with regular cool white shop lights. Two abreast seems to handle up to 30" quite nicely/ Some suggest adding A 60 watt incandescent to each pair of flourescent fixtures. Steve

Raising and lowering the lights might be a problem unless you have some type of frame to attach them to. If in a basement, some people attach chains to the rafters. Another option is put the lights and plants under the table and the chains around/above the table.
You can pick up shop lights at any hardware type store. There has been a fair amount of discussion on which type of bulbs to use. Generally, the consensus is just to use inexpensive fluorescents.

Thanks so much. I think I alread have those in my basement ceiling already and can just move one. I still need to know more about the light.

You might want to look at the topic "Growing under Lights" under the GardenWeb forums.
