How tall were your dahlias ? Earliest bloomers?

I saw an old thread from like 2005 where a person asked about earliest blooming dahlias, and since it's been awhile, I thought I'd ask the question again, for those of us who'd like a few earlier blooming ones.... My earliest were MacAllister's Pride(72 days)and Crazy Legs(77 days). All mine except 1 bloomed before 90 days this year.....

Also, how tall do/did your dahlias grow at your growing location? Mine grew tall, because I have a general lack of sunlight, which only gets worse as the year progresses, and the sun starts going down in the sky after summer solstice. So I initially get 6.5-8 hours per day, but by late October, I'm getting 2 hours! So mine which were supposed to grow 4-4.5 feet, actually grew anywhere between 4 feet and 8 feet tall! But i got good blooming though, no complaints there.

As I reflect over 2011 blooms,my first bloom came on July 26, and it was Rock Star. Followed closely by Arabian Nights, Cherry Wine, Carmen Fiesta, Worton's Blue Streak, and Lucky Ducky. A couple weeks later, I got my first 2 larger dahlias: Ivory Palaces and Trooper Dan. The Trooper was purchased as a plant from a local tuber sale, so it's earliness wasn't on the same level as the others, which were planted as tubers. VERY late year!

As for the tallest plants, they were all on the Northwest of our property, and we think they get the best sun. There were several of about 7 feet (which is pretty tall.) The tallest two were probably L'Ancresse and Snoho Doris, followed closely by a Carmen Fiesta, Pooh, and Citron Du Cap. The tallest that I've ever had (2009) was bigger than that, in excess of 10 feet, and it was Cyril Higgo. I have very fond memories of that plant!

When do start the clock? when you put them in the ground? when they first poke out of the ground? What if you start them inside? and when do stop the clock? when you notice a first bud? when it starts to open?
Sorry, I just want to be accurate.

^^ I shouldve mentioned the criteria...

Time to bloom is usually measured from the day you first planted the dormant tubers, til the day that the first flower was completely open.

So if you started your tubers indoors, you'd measure time to bloom from the day you planted the dormant tubers inside, to the day the first flower completely opened up.
