Here's a photo of Sheherezade, over 100 blossoms on 7 stems. It's a great Orientpet lily.

I wish you could smell it, it's so wonderful, like cloves and cinnamon.

It's about seven feet tall (you can see it's nearly as tall as the nearby Japanese maple. The blossoms are about 10 inches across.

I've got a shorter oriental lily, 'Arena,' but I've admired 'Scheherezade' before. I'll bet its an amazing sight in person. I think I'll have to squeeze in another oriental lily in the back yard, or in that last bare spot between shrubs in the front border. . . .

I have no idea about potting up lilies. I only have a couple clumps, and have never tried potting them.

Absolutely Beautiful!!! I haven't planted but a few oriental lilies and only 2 have bloomed. After seeing your pictures I think maybe I should plant a few more. Maybe the neighbor will loan me some of their yard. LOL

You can pot up lilies any time. They may not bloom if planted after March or April. But that's okay, you can keep them and they'll bloom next year, having made food from growing in the pot or the spot where you planted them. I got a bargain on a bunch of CasaBlanca lilies and potted them up. They're not going to bloom this year, but are busy feeding themselves for gorgeous white blossoms next summer.

Remember good drainage is the most important thing for lilies. I like Brooke's idea of planting in fine pine bark. That provides excellent drainage. But good old potting soil amended with peat, blood meal, a little sand, and lots of organic matter works too.

So if you're finding those bargain bulbs, go ahead, plant for the future.
