Daylily problem of opening

About 3 years ago I gave my sister a Violet Hour daylily and it has bloomed for her. This year there is a part of this daylily that has attempted to open, but it is lavender instead of purple and won't open all the way. The photo here is the best it has opened, the rest just start to barely peek then it expires, and this activity happens at night. Has anybody heard of this before, and what the problem is here? Thank you
