Daylilies in containers

| Hi:-) I am new to this forum and am hoping someone can help me with their expertise. I recently bought two fiberglass 'whiskey barrel' containers and planted Stella D'oro daylilies in them. I love the look of this and they are blooming beautifully in these containers on my lawn. My question is will they do well through the winter or is it necessary to bring these now heavy containers into the garage? I live in South Jersey; the winters are cold, but not unbearable, but I'm wondering how the Daylilies will do. I like them better in the containers as opposed to the ground; looks so nice this way in my garden, but I am afraid of the chore of bringing them in. Does anyone else have the same situation? Did your Stellas do alright in the containers through Winter? Thanks for all your help and advice. |

Hi, and welcome to the forum. I live in the deep south so the dl's would be fine here, however, you might want to repost your question in the "discussions" area of the forum since not too many members frequent the "conversations" area. Members who live in your area or similar ones will likely see and answer your question there. Jan |

| My mom grows her stellas in plastic patio pots. She leaves them there all winter long. Though she's in South New Jersey where it's not as cold because she's on the water. She very rarely gets snow. You could try it if you don't mind losing them. |

In August,2007 you posted in inquiry about growing Daylilies in containers, and wondered about storing them over the winter. I was wondering how you made out. I am growing some daylilies in containers this summer, and am wondering what to do also. I live in zone 6/7--near the salt water in S.E. Massachusetts. I have formed the opinion that some varieties are much hardier than others, and so I am not too concerned about one variety, but worried about others. Also, how does one distinguish between varieties? Your imput will be greatly appreciated. I do hope you respond. KINDLY put the word "GardenWebber" in the subject area to keep your e-mail to me out of my junk pile. THANK YOU ! |
