I have planted 8 daylilies in 5 hours of sun but beside 2 very large maple trees. I have found that this year the bloom was small if any on a couple , but the dirt was all Root? Do the daylilies compete for dirt?(against the maple roots. I have a raised bed and the dirt is all root. Also to mention they are apprx 18 inches apart. Thanks for your help!!!.

DL's need 24/7 full sun! If they are under a tree they may not be getting enough sun. I have 30 dayliles next to blue spruce and crabapples they are doing great, but again they get full sun!

Yeah even if they were to bloom they would probably all be reaching for the sun. I have mostly a full sun property. If i had mostly shade i would probably be growing hostas. Lol.
