My garden (pic heavy)

It starts off with just a bit of snow left on the ground in spring, and gradually gets to full bloom. Of course, it cycles around again to winter. These are pics I took in March 2011 through January 2012. I'm still trying to find my backyard pics. Hopefully I didn't accidentally delete them of the computer.

Oh Julia, those pics are so awesome! I love, love, love seeing the tranformation through the seasons! Keep them coming!

So much color and so much space! That clematis defies description! Thank you for sharing these beauties on this cold snowy day here in the frozen north! Love it!!

Those are super, and the room you have!!! I wouldn't know where to start first. Really like the slate wall/border. The clumps of iris are beautiful, and the clematis is amazing. I can see why you are so anxious to get out there. Love seeing the changes during the seasons.
You have very pretty gardens with a very nice mix of perennials. I had to look at them several times.

Julia, Your garden pics are wonderful. I especially like the wide open views...it looks like you can see for miles and miles. The only place nearby where we have an unobstructed view is the beach...so I'm siting here in awe. I wish I could grow iris and your clematis is to die for! Of course my favorite shots are the daylily beds...they're perfect. I hope you find your backyard pics and will post more!

This is wonderful the way you showed us the garden all thru the seasons. Great idea. I like all the views of all that space too. What a difference between summer and winter.

RE: My garden (pic heavy)

Thanks everyone for the comments. I've been searching for all the backyard pics but where did they go??? The search continues. I think it is time for me to get an external hard drive to store all my photos on.

The clematis is Comtesse de Bouchaud that I got many years ago. I am ashamed to admit I didn't take care of it like I should have until last year. It is such a beautiful clematis when in full bloom.

The Iris are all bearded ones of varying heights but they increase like rabbits. Last year I must have given away 100's and still have too many of the same ones so need to thin them out again this coming year after bloom season. I'd love some tall yellows with lots of ruffles or two-tone ones with purples/pinks/creams etc.

Thanks to all of you on this forum and on ATP which have given me more great ideas to add this coming season. Your gardens inspire me!

Julia,
Your garden is beautiful! I especially love the full bloom daylilies and the clematis "to die for". The snaow scenes are always lovely and it is fun to see the garden evolve through phases. Thanks for posting.

Thanks Kay. That clematis is way to big for the trellis I have it on but I won't touch it. Hopefully the other clematis I planted last year take off this coming season.

I do hope others will post their gardens, and how they evolve from one season to the next.Gotta have something to look at while waiting for spring to arrive ;-).

Bravo! What a beautiful piece of land you have and your gardens are lovely. I admire that flat yard of yours...must have been pasture land at some point. Mine was all forest when we moved here and it's all bumpy and full of rocks and roots. You have the kind of land I covet! Your iris and clematis are outstanding. I always enjoy seeing everyone's gardens and it was a treat to see yours.

What a beautiful photo show! I wish I had as much space as you do. I especially love the beebalm and coreopsis planted with the daylilies.

celestialrose: The property was a mix of fields and vineyards. Where the house is sitting is where vineyards use to be. Isn't it amazing how many rocks can surface once you start digging LOL.

shive: I too love the bee balm and those coreopsis come back year after year after year. Amazing.

I hope others will start posting their gardens....please. I need to get through 2 more months of winter here.

I believe the paler blue iris might be Missouri, an earlier Dykes medal winner.Would the other one be Stepping Out? I wish my clematis looked like yours, it's stunning. I envy you all the ground-but at my age I can't handle any more. Please lets have more pics from you thru the seasons.

Great pics Julia! Your plants look so healthy. Love the iris and daylily pics, and the stone wall. So pretty, but then the cold! Yikes! Too cold for me!

juliany: Please consider posting your photo of Comtesse de Bouchaud on the Clematis forum. I started a thread there called, "Please share your pretty flower photos here!" Be sure to check it out and post your gorgeous photo. BTW, I collect both daylilies and clematis.

RE: My garden (pic heavy)

flowergirl70ks: I can't remember what the bearded iris are but I'll look up the ones you suggested. I added several more clematis last year so I hope they put on a great show like Comtesse does.

Ed: Yup, it can get cold here but this year its been unusual. One day it can be in the single digits and the next back in the 40's. One day snow flurries and then we get rain which eliminates any snow cover. No snow cover now as we had rain again.

pmermakov: I'll have to stop in again on the Clematis forum.

Julia, great pictures ... you're certainly out in the open. I didn't see any trees?

Not much snow here either, outside Buffalo, NY ... it will be interesting to see how the daylilies do this summer since they are used to being under a blanket of snow all winter.

You can also back up your pictures to disk ... I try to do that a couple of times a year ... along with all my Master Dayliliy lists.

RE: My garden (pic heavy)

That was fun! I really enjoyed seeing the subtle changes and how things evolved. Beautiful clematis, I can never get them to grow like that. thanks

RE: My garden (pic heavy)

Thank you for the comments.
The upper beds have already been changed late in the summer when I took out several plantings of bearded iris and gave them away and started dividing out the lower beds of iris.

Pam: There are trees but nothing within 50 feet of the house. My husband is adamant about that. Most of the heavy woodlands are in the hedge rows. I did though save some trees that grew in the fields and replanted nearer to the house area and bought a few ornamental trees.
Still not alot of snow here this winter. Will February be our wintry month?

flowergirl929: That clematis is several years old. Planted in full sun with just the base mulched but I've read on the clematis forum others recommend Comtesse and I have to agree with them. Have you tried that one? I did have trouble with it showing yellowing leaves but once the flowering started, you didn't even notice it. Hopefully this year, it will not yellow again like this past year. Something to do with deficiency but you wouldn't think so looking at it in full bloom and it blooms a long time to.

I need to pick up some extra USB Data Traveler Memory Sticks to back up my pics. Been reading about External Hard Drives and how they don't always work properly so maybe not the best solution. The USB Flash Drive seems to be the better solution for me.

I love the way each individual garden shows up in the winter shots and I can just imagine how it will look come
spring.

Those flowers in the other pics are beautiful, so full and
happy looking. Keep your picks coming, we love them.

RE: My garden (pic heavy)

Well, February is starting out mild too .. who knows.

Interesting ... 50 feet. I'll take my chances, love the shade I get in the summer, and the wind break in the winter.

 o
RE: My garden (pic heavy)

Kay: Thank you. With the way our weather is here, we may end up with bloom time similar to the south LOL.

Pam: I sometimes wish I had more but am happy to give the perennials the full sun they want ;-). I have a nice front porch facing north so it stays shaded most of the day when I am gardening out front and a maple and pines plus a pergola in the back when I feel a need to get out of the sun.

RE: My garden (pic heavy)

Wonderful! A clematis to die for! How do you keep the deer away? The plants must love the sun, but here we need more shade in the summer.
