Congratulations! So much fun to grow daylilies from seeds. You shouldn't have any problems, daylilies are pretty easy, just the wait for them to bloom that is the hard part!

Thanks, ngraham. You are right. The wait and suspense till the first bloom will seem very long. It reminds me of the idiom. "a watched pot never boils". Is there any possibility for the seedling to bloom the second year?

I've never had any bloom 2nd year, but I understand some people do.

The first seed I grew was unknown red X wild ditch lily-fortunately no one told me this would not work and once I learned it was difficult I was not able to repeat the cross. I planted it in a pot in the kitchen window in February and two out of eight seeds bloomed the next year--bicolor reds that are still out in the weeds somewhere. After that I crossed various oldies, altissima hybrids from White Flower Farms, Red Magic, Fall Red, I just planted the seed outside and it grew. Then I started collecting early species, running to stores and getting potted lates and crossing them with early bloomers in an attempt to get early colors--didn't work, they bloomed in between early and late. The last few years I've gotten rather bored with it all but last year I crossed flava with minor. Getting hooked on daylilies and crossing them can lead you down a primrose path to frustration.--------------Weedy

Well, I too am a novice in growing daylilies from seeds. I wintersowed my seeds in gallon plastic jugs. My success rate is not great though. I sowed about 12 seeds and got only 3 seedlings. I do not know whether my seeds have low germination rate or my method yields low rate. I need more experience.
