Kay, I haven't counted but I got rid of about 300 daylilies last year! I removed 1 whole patch and transfered only my favorites. I still have a lot of dls though but this spring, I really saw the difference in the weedling! I didn't rid myself of any of the seedling but probably will as they bloom this year! I have around 350 of blooming age and about 200 of the new seedlings that I will need to put in the ground. I have been moving only my favorite Irises to other flower beds so as to cut back there! I have sent about 700 irises packing but still have about 50 or so. They are so prone to rust and the aphids are crazy about them so that takes a bunch of time, keeping them sprayed. I am 74 years old and my hip is really bothering me. Right now, I am using a walker but hopefully that temporary. Anyway, you can see why I have downsized but as long as I can hobble, I plan to have my hobby! I still have about 450 daylilies aside from my seedlings!!! LOL!! Ellie

I understood exactly why you were doing it. I plan to lose about half of one iris bed and maybe 20 or so daylilies. I will be 69 in September, and want things to be a bit more manageable.

I have about 350 daylilies and about as 250 iris, but I will be decreasing those numbers. I too intend to continue gardening...I enjoy it too much, but the weeding is a pain, and I need more room between my plants.

Exactly Kay, not to mention that tere are still some dls I would love to have so I am getting really picky. I have some seedlings going to bloom for the first time that I am excited about and some that are going by way of the woods.. My woods are full of irises and daylilies that I didn't want and couldn't sell...or GIVE away!! Ellie

Ellie, that is funny, and very pretty too, I bet. I am currently planning to quit qrowing maybe 20 of my current group, maybe more than that. If I don't love it, it is going. My daylilies are too close together and will be more healthy if they have more room. And you know there are always some that you just "have to have".
