Help with saving daylily...???

Last year I got two large fans of Pete Hansen Memorial. One of the fans came back, but the other didn't. I could see the top of the crown, which was brown and no new growth showing.

Today I dug it out - carefully, just in case there were still roots, but there were none. There WERE however, three small bulbus storage areas still attached. The crown is very large... about the diameter of a quarter and the length of a wine cork. It is also still very firm. I rinsed it off, pulled of all the decaying roots and did a quick dip in a 5% bleach solution.

My plan was to dust it with sulfur dust and plant it in a pot with damp sterile seed medium, place it in the shade and cross my fingers.

Anyone have any advice?
