Width of Bed for Stella D'Oro Daylily Border

We have a long walkway that has grass on either side. I would like to have Stella D'Oro Daylilies put in on either side of sidewalk going all the way up to the back door. From your experience with this plant how much grass should I remove for the flower bed to house these plants. In other words how wide should I make the bed? Nothing else will be planted in the bed. Thanks

I would do 12-18" but that is just my WAG!
