Well, there are some very nice individual plants, but I don't find the gardens (from these photos) to be esthetically pleasing. As you said, there is such a mix of plants. For example, in the first photo, with the heavy feel of the sunflowers. And later the alternating colors of sweet potato vine seem tasteless to me. But I guess, "grow what you like." The gardens need more airiness and more starkly vertical elements, as well as some unifying repetition of plants, more use of blues and pinks to connect, and more use of foliage plants in edging. I really enjoy the pictures of gardens. I could never exist just on daylilies, though my addiction in that department is serious.

A fellow gardening friend of mine and I were just talking about that. How we so admire large sweeping vistas of a well landscaped garden containing only a relative few number of plant selections in order to bring about the unity of the whole. However, that's not us. I actually like the Frey garden and spent 3 or 4 minutes dissecting the many plants in the coleus grouping. I try and encorporate plants that will follow the "rules" but in the end, if I see something that interests me my good intentions are out the window. As Mantis points out in the end it's just fine to "grow what you like".. .......Maryl
