One of the biggest problems I have with Stella is that it has to be divided really every 2-3 years to get good bloom. Yes, I can remember when it was status to have Stella--and it sold for a lot. But it was definitely over-hyped.

I have 2, plus a look-alike, plus Stella Supreme. They start early, always rebloom.
But.. they are everywhere here, in mass plantings of course, like e-v-e-r-y-where. And yes, the division. And they form seeds like crazy.

I think Stellas are approaching dandelion status.

But they're exactly what daylilies need: a cheap, common, easy daylily that can lead the average gardener into an interest in fancier, fussier, more expensive varieties. They're certainly a better ambassador for daylilies than ditch lilies are.

Stella is how I eased my way into daylilies. I bought them not really knowing anything about daylilies. I wanted to expand my perennial flower beds. They were pretty, cheap, easy to care for, and hardy in zone 5. Those are my criteria for perennials. Two years later, I still like their pretty faces. The Stellas have quite a few other friends now!

(I like the very first dandelions that bloom in the spring too!)

Interesting comments! Stella wasn't my first daylily. I wanted some but just never got any until a few years ago. I think dandelions are pretty too!
