Is my daylily spreading or is this a weed?

I had a row of daylilies planted about 3 weeks ago. I suddenly had a little sprout pop up about a foot over and I was 2 seconds away from pulling it up thinking a weed or some bermuda grass had sprouted up when it hit me that maybe it was a daylily sprouting up??

Here is the sprout in question (see next pic for close up).

It looks enough like a daylily that I would give it some time before calling it.
No, your daylilies haven't spread that far or that quick, but whoever planted them may have had a small fan left over and planted it. The spacing looks about right.

Oh wow I never considered they may have planted a small fan leftover!!! That would make more sense. I thought it was odd that it sprouted up in the exact spot where it looked like one should be. I heard they spread fast but didn't think it was that fast :-)

You might want to give the plants an inch or two of space around the crown, rather than mulching right up to it.
