What to do??

I came home after being gone for 10 hot days to find daylily foliage dry and dying. I was hoping for some rain while we were gone, but apparently we didn't get any.

What is least stressfull to the daylilies?

Should I just go ahead and cut the tops off, or just pull the dead part off. Some of them look completely dead, but this happened to one or two last year and they came back later.
