This past weekend I worked on a new flower bed. I removed all of the old patio stones from behind my garage (18 large, 9 small, plus some bricks), tilled the earth, removed a bunch of old cedar roots, grass and weeds, put down some mulch and edging and now I have a brand new flower bed all ready for my 16 new daylilies that should be here in a couple of weeks.
Not too bad, eh?
Some other things from the garden today:
STELLA D'ORO
I don't know the name of this flower but I like it;
Pink Pixie Asiatic Lily
Crimson Pixie Hybrid Lily
Abraham Darby English Rose
Alexander MacKenzie Explorer Series Rose
Lollypop Asiatic Lily (again)
Gaillardia
Pink Lupine (again)
Little Leo Leopard's Bane
Orange Lily

| Oh, all the lilies are just marvelous. Especially Pink Pixie and Crimson Pixie. You know I love the Lupines. Love that Alexander MacKenzie rose also. You sure have been working hard and the results look great. Makes it so easy to plant when you have the garden area all done like that. I am just picturing the area filled with blooming daylilies. Going to look just super! |

Thank-you Rita! It was a lot of hard work. Those patio stones were heavy! I didn't do it all alone though. I did have some help from my significant other. We always hated that area behind the garage. The patio stones were all mish mashed in there in no proper order and it was all uneven and weeds and grass kept coming up betwen the cracks, it just looked bad. Having that patch filled with blooming dayliles will indeed be a vast improvement! Jason |

| The blue flower towards the beginning is campanula glomerata, a clustered bellflower. |

| Thanks everyone for the comments! I am proud of that new garden. It's nothing spectacular or fancy but I think having it filled with flowers will look quite nice compared to those old patio stones that were there. crackingtheconcrete - If I had kids, I'm sure I'd have toys and stuff laying around too but with just a dog that goes outside, the only thing you'll find in my yard on non-scooping days is dog poop! LOL |

WOW!! I wish I had so much energy I hope to expand my daylily bed this fall when it cools down, way to hot in FL now to do much in the garden except watch the weeds grow. Your other flowers are gorgeous and I bet you can't wait to get those new DL's in that new bed. Linda |

| That new bed is going to look great with all daylies planted. That sure was lot of work. The lilies are gorgeous! I have lollipop but she's just now budding up. Everything seems to be so slow flowering this year. Yours to? I have a lot of scapes & buds on the daylilies but no flowers yet. I saw some white on one bud the other day (I was in the house) and thought it was opening but when I went into the garden I saw that some dirty bird had sh***t on it! Oh well, that's how it goes I guess. Marg |

| New beds are a lot of work, but knowing what will go in them is exciting. You will be rewarded richly in a few weeks! You have an array of beautiful flowers. I especially like the campanula and the Abraham Darby English Rose. Vickie |

| I was imagining all the work of lifting up and hauling the stones. Much less were to haul them off to :-( I know you are really happy to have it done. The planting will be easy now. |

| Linda - You're right, I can't wait to get those flowers planted. Next week hopefully! Marg - My stuff was really slow this year too thanks to the mostly rotten spring we had. I've never had peonies or iris blooms still going into July but this year I did. Everything is just so behind. Hopefully we have a nice Fall so the season can be extended. My daylilies have lots of scapes too but nothing really blooming yet. I've only had 4 daylilies bloom so far. Many more to come. It's hard being patient! Jason |

Your garden is really coming along. What is the new bed going to have planted in it? Your blooms are beautiful. I love Abraham Darby, he is one of my favorite roses. And your lupines are to die for, Jason. kay |

| Rita - Yes it does feel good to have it all done and planting will seem easy compared to preparing the space. You know when it's really hot and you're all sweaty and working in the dirt and it just sticks to you? On top of that, the mosquitos were relentless. We just piled the stones in the driveway off to the side. My in-laws are going to take the stones away sometime this summer. They will be used as the base of a new shed they are going to build so at least they will be re-purposed. Jason |

| Kay - 16 new daylilies will go into that garden. In no particular order, JOLYENE NICHOLE, FAIRY TALE PINK, INWOOD, COSMOPOLITAN, MINI PEARL, OLE OLE, a seedling (BETTY WARREN WOODS x FOOLED ME), LAURA HARWOOD, LAKE NORMAN SPIDER, RUBY SPIDER, SPACECOAST FANCY DANCER, BARBARA MITCHELL, REAL WIND, SPIRITUAL CORRIDOR, ETCHED EYES and BEAUTIFUL EDGINGS. Not sure how I will arrange them in the new bed yet though. Can't wait til they are in there and start to fill in the area. I think the colours will look good with the plain white backdrop of the garage siding. Jason |
