Friday blooms - only a couple

I've been trying to cross a couple of these to see what results I would get and to check fertility. I guess it will be a few more days before I can tell if anything took.

JOSHUA SLOCUM - it has had a bad case of the splotchies this year. Some are good and others really bad. Thrips perhaps? I've not had this happen before so something changed. Scapes are much shorter this year than in past.

I've been crossing it with CITRON ENCHANTER and vice versa to see if anything will take. I assume I should see something in the next couple of days if they did take.

CITRON ENCHANTER - finally some decent blooms. I have two plantings left of this one. It increases nicely, tall scapes but budcount is down since I keep dividing. The front garden planting seems to have larger blooms than the back garden one. I got a double fan from Gaskins back in 2009.

First photo is from the back garden and second is from the front garden.

PAINTING THE ROSE RED - another one that needs to go where it is warmer I think. Doesn't increase that well, scapes are short each year. Time to say good-bye.

and lastly a seedling sent to me by mistake a couple of years ago Parents unknown. I've kept it and I love the blooms which carries a hint of pink at times. This year it will have a new place in the garden.

I also tried some pollen of LAVENDER BLUE BABY on EVIDENCE OF ALIENS. Not my best choice but dips are limited in what is blooming today.

Good to know that Citron Enchanter does well for you. Did you ever have anywhere near the registered 30 buds? Wild Irish is a Gaskin that people say has low bud count. Joshua Slocum looks very good here, but glad that you are accurate and note there have been some problems with splotchiness.

mantis: I had WILD IRISH(also purchased from Gaskins) till this year when I sold a clump of it. It increased wonderfully but no where near the bud count as registered. I used it for crosses and then decided to let it go and bring in some other plants. CITRON ENCHANTER is also no where near what it is registered at here in my garden.

Rita: I love that seedling even if it was a mistake. :-).

It is a shame JOSHUA SLOCUM is having splotch problems, it is such a gorgeous color. Painting the Rose Red is such a nice color too, but don't you hate the short scapes. Beautiful seedling.

Love the seedling. It's my favorite one today. Do you have splotchiness problems with Painting the Roses Red? It's done well for me except for that, but that's a huge problem for me.

The Seedling is very pretty, but I love them purples and the red one too. gorgeous blooms.

Does anyone know how Cimarron Rose is in regard to splotchiness?

mantis: I don't grow CIMARRON ROSE so can't comment on it.

Val: I have not noticed any splotchiness on PAINTING THE ROSES RED as much as I've seen it happen on other cultivars. I know it is said it is attributed to thrips but sometimes I wonder if that is really the only cause. I did spray this year but perhaps I should have done a second round of it but then with all the weather issues, I didn't think it would be wise.

Very hot/humid here today. Hope we get a cool down tomorrow. I need to get back to moving plants.
