Indeed, there are some that go " summer dormant" after blooming. the foliage dies back. In my climate, (zone6/7) the foliage does grow back in the late summer- early fall.

In my zone (which until recently was 5b but recently was reclassified as 6a), the leaves turn yellow in late August/early September. I cut them off for tidiness, and the plant goes dormant until next year.
