Daylily die back

Do Daylilies die back in August after blooming? I have quite a few on my property and they all seem to do this. They were planted before we lived here and don't know much about gardening or daylilies. Thanks!

RE: Daylily die back

Indeed, there are some that go " summer dormant" after blooming. the foliage dies back. In my climate, (zone6/7) the foliage does grow back in the late summer- early fall.

In my zone (which until recently was 5b but recently was reclassified as 6a), the leaves turn yellow in late August/early September. I cut them off for tidiness, and the plant goes dormant until next year.
