Purples are hard to photograph!

Ugh. I have always had a hard time taking photos of reddish purple daylilies.
I am posting some anyway :)

Amanda's Dream is a pretty one, and new to me. Victorian Lace was always a good performer here, too.

    I really like Amanda's Dream.

According to someone I spoke with at Canon, digital cameras have difficulty in capturing the true color of purples. They usually turn out more red than purple, not showing the true color of the daylily. My software allows me to apply a cooling filter which improves color accuracy of the bloom as it appears to the naked eye.

I also have a problem photographing white daylilies, as they appear much more yellowish in the photo. I haven't learned yet to adjust the white balance on our new camera.

Amanda's Dream is my pick. Nice eye pattern.

Someone once told me to use a white card next to the bloom, focus the camera, slowly pull the card away and then snap the shutter. Not easy with a large camera but I've done it with my smaller camera - Canon Powershot. White too is difficult for me unless I'm in shaded area or before the sun comes up all the way.

The purples are pretty, but Amanda's Dream is my favorite today.
My camera seems to have issues with everything lately, purples, yes, plus light yellows and all oranges. I try different angles and sometimes get a close to true color. It's an old point and shoot one.

Here's a trick you can try, and it has worked for me. Before you photograph a purple, click a picture of your palm just about the same distance as your daylily photograph will be. Then photograph your purple.

Amanda's Dream is a beauty! I'm going to try judyann's trick. My last camera made purples too red and my current one makes them too blue.

I will try that tip. Bella Sera is so beautiful, but I never could get the color to come out right, whether it was sunny or cloudy. I also have quite a few Lambertson-line seedlings with incredible coloration that was impossible to capture.

I tried the white card, but that didn't work. I must have not done it right.

I thought this would be worth bringing up in the forum again. It's definitely useful for people having trouble with their purples or whites!

I have several daylilies that are somewhat purple, but Lousiana Jones is the most purple one I have...

But you can see it has a lot of red to it still...everytime I see a purple appearing daylily, I buy it even though I know it won't be that color here.

Kay, Louisiana Jones is beautiful. That is going on my wish list. Thanks for posting it.

Oranges have always been the most difficult for me. Even though it is good to take early AM shots, the orange blooms need some sunlight in order for the color to show accurately.
