What did you add to your collection this year?

daylilybedmaker

I've lost my mind because not only did I add a newborn to go along with my 20 month old twins, 9 and 7 year old, but I also added 33 daylilies (through the trademart, lily auction, Maryott's sale, and other auctions) and one Hot Papaya echinacea. Most of the daylilies are in pots and I will sink them in the vegetable garden for the winter, then I will have the fun task of finding a home for them in the garden. Here is what I added to the collection since the beginning of August:

ASHWOOD DARK SIDE

ASHWOOD RINGS OF SATURN

BELLE OF ASHWOOD

BEWITCHING EYES

BEYOND THE SEA

BLUEBERRY BREAKFAST

BUTTER CREAM

CERULEAN WARBLER

CORAL MAJORITY

EINSTEIN

FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE

FROSTED VINTAGE RUFFLES

LINDA BECK

LINDA SIERRA

Can't wait until next year to post some pictures of these new ones.

Have a great day.

I just have three new ones:

    REDEFINING GENETICS
    TIME TO PLAY
    DOUBLE POMPOM

I'm having to buy replacements for those lost to crown rot, so I'm not to anxious to add many new cultivars. Besides, I have exactly 100 cups full of seedlings that will have to be grown in pots. I will be culling a lot of seedlings from the garden this coming spring. Alas, I am so limited on space now.

Ah yes, Nancy, that space thing is what is limiting me. I don't want to enlarge my garden beds anymore, so I am moving one out in order to move another one in.

I don't know about everyone else, but if I didn't keep looking at other people's postings, my list would be shorter. And there are a lot I really want still. Ah well.

Sorry Nancy. I'm not looking cause the temptation is just too great.

Kay: Exactly what I'm doing here but the worse thing I needed to clean up was the double planting of the same cultivar. Then comes the seedlings. Some just have to go.:-(.

That is so pretty, Nancy. Most lovely purples like that tend to be pink or reddish here, such a disappointment. that one is really a beauty. Just lovely.

    Bedmaker,

All I can say you're in very good company, as I've also lost my mind. This fall I removed another 25 from the garden, but somehow the number on my inventory list didn't go down one little bit. Ugh.
When you attend Regional and National meetings, you can't help it. They give you gift plants and it is just too tempting on the auctions, etc. These are the ones I've added since early summer.

    APPALACHIAN TRAIL (Reed 10)
    ASHWOOD'S MAGIC CRYSTAL (Norris 10)
    CAROLYN'S CURLS (Herr 08)
    LYNNSTAR (H. Anderson 06)
    MEGATRON (Gossard 06)
ONE EYE WILLIE (T. Herrington 06)
    PIGMENT OF IMAGINATION (Norris 08)
    PINK TITAN (Gossard 09)
    PURPLE CHEER (H.Anderson 09)
    PURPLE PHANTOM (H. Anderson 06)
    PURPLE TARANTULA (Gossard 11)
    RAINBOW MAKER (Gossard 12)
    SUBURBAN COACH BURNHAM (Watts 11)
    SUBURBAN T.R. (Watts 08)
SUBURBAN JOHN E. WATTS (Watts 11)
ALL ABOARD FOR COLUMBUS (D. Kirchhoff 12)
    CLASSY COLUMBUS (RICE-JA 11)

There are 3 or 4 more potted up that I may not keep - will probably donate to Lilyhemmer.

I'm really happy to get more of Hilton Anderson's minis and small flowers. ( he is the hybridizer of 'Coffee to Go' which is just wonderful. His plants are not so well distributed, so it is good to get a few more here.)
Same with Earl Watts plants. I saw so many of them looking wonderful at the Reg. 14 meeting and am anxious to try some of them here! And who doesn't love Jamie Gossard's plants? They perform like champs here. Yep, a sickness, no known cure!

    American Freedom
    April Laquinta
    Barbie in Pink
    Bonnie Holley
    Forestlake Raggamuffin
    Caesar's Head
    Carol Todd
    China Clipper
    Drop Dead Gorgeous
    Gary Colby
    Reyna
    Spacecoast Jimbo Saddler

This can get *really* addicting... I added:

    Gerrie Frankenberger
    Italian Kaleidoscope
    Fringed Sangria
    Boundless Beauty
    Larry's Obsession
    April Laquinta
    Thin Man (bonus)
    Golden Tentacles
    Northern Rose (bonus)
    Ruffly Duffly Dude
    Arctic Sunrise
    Doyle Pierce (bonus)
    North Wind Dancer (bonus)
    Mississippi Blues (bonus)
    Bella Isabella

When I first read the thread title I thought it would be an easy 6 plants that I planted this fall, and then realized it was for the whole year. Seems like the plants do add up when you start tallying them. :)

I think I added around thirty more or less got rid of some old ones that didn't do well so I would have room. I don't have my list on this computer so won't list them. Each year I say that is it I will add no more. Well I already have one ordered for next year.

Don't want to go there. lol I had bought only a few this fall, but a friend in the garden club was evicting some nice daylilies for space and some wandered my way. I may not end up keeping then after they bloom next year, but I wanted to see what they looked like before deciding. And a few wandered over from Dad's house.
    Awesome Bob
    Better Than Ever
    Blue Grass Music
    Border Blessed
    Brown Exotica
    Captain Picard
    Carved Pumpkin Pie

    Eccentricity
    Electric Marmalade Splash
For Aunt Marian (bonus with Coit Tower)
    Forestlake Ragamuffin
    Free as the Wind

    Margaret Tucker
    Marietta Tilogy

    Ruby Claire Mims (bonus)
    Seduced
    Star Enchantment
    Sunday Sandals
    Ted Gardian
    Thundercat
    Vivid Imagination
    Walter Kennedy
    Woman at the Well
    Zest of Orange Truffle
There were a few more I had got from our friend, but I am still reworking the list. I have several things planted WAY too close together pending what I decide to do with them next year, But as we split the free daylilies between Dad, myself, a new garden club member, and lined some out for the club sale next spring, they were small enough I could crowd them on purpose short term. You can't pass up free plants! Especially nice ones -I got about 20 plants from him. And four from Dad's house -that's my payment for garden labor-lol

I actually god rid of quite a few between last year and this year. I'd say I got rid of 100 or more by giving them to friends and family.

    I added back in:

    Malcolm David Brooker Sr
    Venus Flyrap
    Victorian Gardens Starbrite
    My Chihuahua bites
Wolverine (not sure if it will live- looks like I shoved a stick in the ground. no leaves coming back)
    Toucan Sam
    Emerald Startburst
    Bohemian Rhapsody
    Heavenly Tiger Tails

This Winter will not be so great. I'm stalking the auctions. I've got Malaysian Marketplace already purchased and have atleast 10 more I am waiting for.

How exciting your lists are, everyone! I added quite a few dayliilies this year; unfortunately, due to enormous upheaval/family issues this spring that have, among other things, rendered roughly one third of our house nonfunctional (STILL nonfunctional! because some rooms are full to bursting with other people's stuff), I have no idea where I've placed this year's order forms and lists. Well, technically, I do know - they're in my office, but they may as well be on the far side of the moon.

Off the top of my head, some new ones that I recall:

    BETH CREVELING (Apps)
    BIG HONKING BRAZEN HUSSY (Jones)
    BOB FAULKNER (Polston)
    CALYPSO GREEN (Herrington)
    DARK DRAGON (P. Bennett)
    GREAT RED DRAGON (Gossard)
    GREYWOODS COWGIRL CASANOVA (Wilkinson)
    GREYWOODS PAWS AND WHISKERS (Wilkinson)
    LEMON FRINGED LEMONS (Holmes)
    LITTLE GOLD NUGGET (Herrington)
MY HEART BELONGS TO DADDY (Wilkerson)
    PERFECT TEN (Moldovan)
    RUFFLED ORANGE PRETZELS (Klehm)
    STATIC SHOCK (Gossard)
    STORMY WATERS (Holmes)
    SILVER SWORD (Holmes)
    WHIP CITY SLINKY SLIDE (Jones)
    WOW FACTOR (Wilkerson)

There are others....I wonder what they are. ;)

Those are some amazing lists. Like others, thinking back, I got more than I realized this year. But this morning I gave 11 plants to my mother-in-law to make space for what's coming.

    Already received:
Carpenter seedling (FOREVER IN TIME x tet RED EYED DYNAMITE)
    FORGIVENESS AND MERCY (Regional gift)
    RAY SOUTHWORTH (gift)
    LAHOMA'S LEGACY (gift)
    CELESTIAL SHORE (gift)
    INNER DESTINY (gift)

    Awaiting by order:
    J.T. DAVIS x 2
    AMERICAN FREEDOM x 2
    LINDA BECK
    (unknown bonus)

    Awaiting from club purchase/auction:
    MAN OF SORROWS
    OVER THE HILL
    others???

lol-Rena-I thought I had gone daylily crazy this year. I had to get rid of several to make room, some I sold in the spring, some I have divided up and potted for next spring's plant sale. Others that I know I am going to get rid of are still in the ground, but I don't want to pot up any more for this year. The ones I plant and sell are my daylily budget for the next year.

Nate I love ordering from Maryott too! I got my 2nd order placed minutes before their deadline of noon (Cali. time is what saved me).

So I also have Lida Sierra coming also plus bonus?
Yes Lisa, it's a way to splurge on your garden/obcession without shouldering any guilt from all the money poured into it! Don't forget we're combatting global warming here!!
It's a tough job but somebody's gotta do it! lol

Well I won a few auctions today on the LA

Stella's Ruffled Fingers (from our very own Floota)

Water Drops (well technically didn't win this one, but the seller gave me a price I was happy with so I added it to my order with Get Jiggy)

    Get Jiggy

And I'm going to add one more to another order Lillian's Ginger Bred, that's a Buy It Now on the LA as well.

And then NO MORE window shopping for me! lol

And I have a large trade to complete with a great GW friend and then I'm done!

Nat4b--Our club has a sale in May. We get 1/2 of profit, the club gets the other 1/2-but they use it for local parks so I don't mind. Debating doing a farmer's market or lily auction or something, because I always have more than I sell at the sale. The local greenhouse has been sending out feelers to gardeners that might like to do a farmers market. They sell mostly veggie plants and annuals and have a small florist business.
