Trouble Registering with Lily Auction?

friesfan1

Hi All,

I have tried unsuccessfully to register with the Lily Auction.

I registered and was/ am waiting for my email registration

key that will allow me to bid.

That was 3 days ago. Since that did not work, I wrote to

the Daylily Auctioneer with my information, and 2 emails

later no response.

When I try to log in, I am told that my email is in the

database. Or I cannot register with 2 different emails.

Anyone else ever have problems with registration?

Thanks,

Mary

I too have been unable to register with the auction site. Let me know what works for you. I'm at a loss.

I'm sure Mike Longo, the owner of the Lilyauction is just busy. Give him time to get back with you. Soon you will be spending ALL your money LOL.

Good luck on waiting! It wouldn't take my yahoo address & sent him an email 8/9/08 & still haven't heard from him. I had a back up email address I use just for business purposes & when I FINALLY got registered all on my own, I switched it back to the yahoo one. MAKE SURE YOU READ the "Disappointed in the LA" thread posted on this site just this last May & come to your own conclusions on whether or not you still want to register. I didn't find it until after I won a few bids & won't say anything more at this point. Time will tell...............

The LA is a great resource for buying daylilies but you have to pick the right seller. Its almost impossible to do that by feedback because I have yet to read anything bad under any seller that I have checked.

I myself would be very cautious about buying now for spring delivery. Did not do that at all last year and was glad when I read that other thread although I never bought from the sellers that were the problems on the other threads referred to. I just received my LA wins from MJ Meadows yesterday (Bubbles on the LA) and the quality was fantastic. From her, I would deffinately buy now for spring.

  • FlowerGardener

Rita is correct the LA is indeed a great resource for buying daylilies especially when you live in a state with very few gardens that sell daylilies. I have read neutral and negative feedback for some sellers there are not many and those sellers with negative feedback often don't last on the LA.

I have bought over winter for spring delivery for at least five years now and have never had a problem getting my plants. Plus I buy from a lot of different sellers after I check the number of feedbacks and the lenght of time they have been selling on the auction by the dates on the feedback. That said I have also purchased from new sellers and recieved nice plants everyone has to start somewhere. Maybe I have just been lucky but I love the LA and have purchased hundreds of daylilies there. I do not often purchase from hybridizers but wait until I know if the plant will be hardy in my garden then check the LA.

Just email Mike about your problems registering and he will get back to you. He may not be available right now but I am confident he will answer.

I gathered that when I spent several hours reading that thread. I'm still waiting for the reference site Carla was trying so hard to get up & going. I have a feeling she was stifled. Reading posts on here says to search "favorite LA sellers". I have found only 1 thread that lists maybe 7 or 8. Now Bubbles will go on my list. Thanks for the tip.

I did just have an excellent experience with Dancingdaylilies. I interacted with her on Tuesday & she had to work 2 double shifts & pack up other people's orders before going on vacation. Technically my order wasn't suppose to ship until 9/22. Because of my zone she slipped mine in & shipped it Saturday morning right before she left to go out of town! Now that is service!!! I'll get my order early next week & I have a feeling I won't be disappointed. She is also sending a plant tag with it. So far 1 out of 2. The other one is giving me a really bad gut instinct. Communication is good but seems real hesitant to send me my plants. Trying to convince me to send them in spring because of my zone. After reading that thread I changed my mind and asked for them to be shipped now in case anything should go wrong I can get my $ back through my bank. This person did ship 1 of the 3 plants I won & it was very nice, but not the 2 that were extremely expensive & supposedly too tender that they needed to be shipped in spring. One would think that those should be planted ASAP & therefore shipped out ASAP if this person is so concerned about it. I actually emailed him & asked him what was wrong with my plants that they weren't shipped with the other one. He ensured me nothing is wrong with them & the soonest they will be able to get 'around' to it is 9/15. I don't know what is up, but I don't believe that. I have a feeling they are either using my plants for hybridizing & the pods haven't ripened enough or they are waiting for them to increase to get more fans to sell. That is what my gut is telling me. The auction did say they would ship 9/22, so technically nothing to panic about yet, just seems extremely fishy. Like I said, time will tell......

    Hi lalalandwi,

I am in zone 5b as well. I wouldn't hesitate planting
something now, you should have at least maybe two weeks into
October before we could possibly [no telling tho with mother
nature] have some really cold weather.

Of course I say, now, as in the first of Sept.
Bummer they will wait until 9/22 to get your plants to you.

As for that thread, I did read it with interest. If negative
comments are being removed, I don't see how that helps the
buyer. I always read feed back before I buy from someone.
Not every seller has to have 100% perfect feedback for
me to buy either. But it does help tell something
about the seller. Ebay has info on feedback that the buyer
leaves too, which if they leave crappy feedback for everyone
the reader has a pretty good idea what kind of person
that buyer is as well. But who has time for that much
    research? not me!

For now, I just got some DL seeds though Diane's Seeds.
I probably will not get any daylily plants this year.
Esp. if it is taking me this long to get registered, I will
just go the ebay or a nursery route if I want live daylilies
    this season.

Maybe next year...who knows at this point.

Thanks for your comments on favorite sellers.

Well, I have been buying from the LA for years, and have been selling for a couple of years also. I've only had a couple of negative experiences with sellers and one with a buyer, so it works both ways. Mike has no control over certain situations, other than banning the person responsible from buying or selling, which he has done on a couple of occasions that I'm personally aware of. I do not buy in the fall for spring shipment, and I do not sell in the fall for spring shipment, thus avoiding the possibility of having plants die over winter that have either been sold or purchased.
I certainly could give you a lot more than 7 or 8 sellers that are wonderful to buy from, and I'm sure there are many, many more that I have not tried at this point.
Overall, my LA experiences have been good ones, whether I've been the buyer or the seller, and Mike has always answered my emails, and taken care of any situation that arises without fail.
I don't know what the problem is with people not being able to register, but I am sure Mike will take care of that when he has the opportunity. If you think about the thousands of buyers, and sellers on the LA, you can imagine the tons of emails he has to wade through regularly.
So, I guess what I'm trying to say here is that I for one love the LA and intend to continue using it even if I do occasionally have a negative experience there. :)

I have purchased several plants and seeds on LA and so far it has been a great experience. I've also purchased plants and seeds on Ebay as well as other things and have had only 1 bad experience with a plant purchase which turned out to be one of those "lessons learned" experiences.

When I first tried to register on LA, it said I had to send my information to Mike Longo which I did. After a couple of days, I contacted him via email to find out what the status of my registration was. Sure enough, within 24 hours the email notification came through. I think they have to run a verification on your address of record. I noticed when my notification came through it had both mine and my husbands name on it and even our middle initials. Odd, since I had only registered my name and no middle initial.
Just email Mike and ask him what the status is of your registration making sure your original registration information is in the email.

    Good luck.

I'm thinking (could be wrong) that maybe you need to initially register with a non-yahoo, non-gmail type of address. It's been a number of years since I registered, so things could have changed...or maybe I have this confused (lol...not the first time, I'm sure)...but, it seems I used a verizon address initially...which I hated and don't use (so many problems)....and I think Edward (sorry if it wasn't you) or someone pointed out that once you register...then you can switch it to the other address.

I'm a long time buyer but a brand new seller on the LA, so I hope folks will take a chance on me. As that long time buyer, I certainly know what I prefer to receive and will do my best to provide that.

I think I've been cured of the paying now for spring delivery...famous last words...but, we'll see. In the meantime, I have my hands full with more daylilies than I know what to do with! Hopefully, I can move things around, downsize some clumps, regretfully part with a few...and donate some to the next club sale...maybe all of that will get things to a somewhat manageable amount (ha...I think this is a multi-year project!).

Anyway, good luck with your registering...I've spend many many hours there!

Hi friesfan, (cute handle by the way) I was not afraid to plant that late until this person put the fear in me about it. Of course being ignorant, I believed him. Everybody says how tough dls are & don't worry about it. A local fellow that has this particular hybridizer's cultivars told me the same thing...don't worry about it. I think it was his way of holding on to my plants til spring for whatever reason. And for whatever other reason, didn't ship all of them together & is making me wait for the 2 that were expensive. Something very fishy is going on that he is not being honest with me about.

I am all with you on your feedback opinion. If 1 out of 50 people leave something negative & the other 49 are raving about them says a lot & I would still buy from them. There is always 1 customer that no matter what you do, you can't make happy. On top of that, mistakes happen...to be human is to err. Repeated errors is another issue.

Jan, I agree with you about the fact there is only so much he can do. The part I was disappointed about is that he removed a negative comment on a seller where the buyer was saying there was no communication. She was clueless as to what was going on & wanted to know where her plants were. Nothing wrong with that, I'd be freaking out too. How hard is it to at least communicate, it's all part of the gig you signed up for. I am so grateful I read that post because now I know what to look for in people's feedback. It's like everyone is soooo afraid to say anything bad about anybody that you have to read between the lines. Would you post all the reputable buyers for us new people on the LA?

Gonegardening, I curtsy to you! I loved your stance in every one of those postings!!!!!!!!!! I love the way you think & please give me your LA user ID. I will be more than confident & very happy to purchase anything you have to offer!

I'm sorry, but since I've stepped foot into the dl world I've never seen so much seediness going on in the nursery trade. All the way from hybridizer's pics not representing what you are getting, but also all of this. Makes me wonder sometimes. Unfortunately, I really do like them & stuck here for a while. I'll live & learn. I wish it would go back to the original theory of gardening where everyone shared plants out of the goodness of their own heart. I realize we are living in the '08 & things have changed, but is asking not to be ripped off too much?

EXCELLENT!! What a list! Thank you so much for taking the time to put this together!

There are few names on there I would have bought from knowing this info. What I got reading from the other thread that is if no one is bidding on them, that is the indication they are not a good seller. Well, if they only have a couple listed & no one is interested in those particular cultivars, that person is doomed to make a sale. That was the case with my scenario, no one was bidding on them & thought they have got to be bad, leave it go. How sad. I hate being skeptical & want to have a lot of fun bidding on the LA, but it just seems to be a rocky start. Afterall, if I wanted to gamble, I'd go to a casino. That way I can expect to come home with nothing.

I can understand why a seller might want to hold plants for shipment in the Spring. SOme of my plants look like horrible right now, they have been reduced to plants with just a little bit of foliage and spent scapes, some with pods on them.

I can only assume that their registry BOT does not work or

Anyways, I think it is now to late to even order seeds for

Most Lily Auction experiences for me have been very positive. There have been a couple that have underwhelmed me, but only in comparison to the vast majority of good auction sellers. I simply don't order from those sellers any more, although what they sent wasn't enough to warrant negative feedback.

I've only had one experience as a seller, done early this year. In one case, the plant was smaller than I would have liked, so I sent the entire clump, along with two nice bonuses and a full refund. I never heard a word back from the buyer.

I wish more buyers were like our Jan (Tweety). She purchased from me on the auction, and the plants were very slow coming up in the Spring. I notified her and offered a refund, and she just told me to hang on to them until Fall. Now, how understanding is that?

I guess my point is that there are good buyers as well as good sellers.

Speaking of good sellers, here's my favorites (with these sellers having received repeat business from me):

    Davi
    Screek
    Penny
Misslily (although I don't think she's selling any more)
    Earthstar
    Southwestgarden
    Goldcoast
    Drbud
    Kygarden
    rondas
    falcon_g
    Perennialist

    Hope this helps! Chris

Another great auction seller is ahead. Fabulous, fabulous plants on occasion....not that I've ever actually been able to win any of them LOL. But also fantastic seeds; if you haven't bid on any of ahead's auctions, you are missing out.

Actually, 99++++% of the auction sellers are great. The fact that, rarely, someone has a terrible experience should in no way scare anybody off. It's just like any endeavor: inform yourself; recognize that most people are good and want to do a good job but that things happen, sometimes intentionally but usually due to circumstances outside one's control; and just plain have fun.

I haven't been bidding much on the auction these days, but I probably will restart soon. But for now, I just can't bid: I seem to have acquired about 75 new daylilies, many of which still need to go into the ground! YIKES!

  • lynxe

I meant to reply to the concerns about the seller who's reluctant to ship now. If the seller had made those comments to me, I'd be doubly pleased and even more confident in that person, not less. IMO that seller has your best interests at heart. Yes of course, there's still plenty of time to get things planted (as I well know LOL), but it's also a truism that spring planting is safer if you're in the north. And that's probably particularly the case if you've ordered plants that may be tender or that are of unknown hardiness.

Gonegardening, you have Garden Palace Beauty!! If it doesn't go too high I'm going for it! I've spent way too much money this year, so if it doesn't go too high...

Maximus, I've seen you've got a couple of bids out there. EXCELLENT taste in plants! Too rich for my blood at this point!

Lynxe, please don't take this the wrong way, but I don't think like you at all. If this person was out for my best interest they would have shipped them by now. I am requesting them now to make sure I am covered with my bank. I really think you gave me a lot of excellent advice on my newbie post, but I also read what you posted on the "Disappointed in the LA" thread & disagreed with you there as well. You stated that you get 100 emails a day & don't feel there is the time to answer all of them & nothing is wrong with that. I beg to differ, you signed up for the gig of selling, it IS your responsibility to answer each & every 1 of those emails. I'm sorry, but I wouldn't buy from you ever again if I had that lack of communication. Communication is the 1 & only thing that is saving this transaction. Without it, I'd be going absolutely bonkers. Very strange they send the cheaper plant without the 2 most expensive 2 weeks later. Communication would put my mind at ease if they would simply tell me they are using them for hybirdizing. Maybe not since I've read here that if you exhaust a plant with too many pods it may not bloom the next year.

  • lynxe

lalalandwi, we just have a different perspective on the tender plant - as you said. But for the other, the 100 emails a day and etc....I'm not sure what you're talking about. I'm not a seller, so ?????

Anyway, good luck with your plants. And the auction....sure, you may end up with a few disappointments every once in a while, but mostly you're going to have lots of fun adding to your daylily collection. :)

I have been having fun on the LA! So much so I may not be able to buy Gonegardenings's Palace Garden Beauty. Sorry Gonegardenting, I sure hope it stays reasonable!

I have been paying a lot of attention over there & getting the gist of who is good & who is completely out of their mind. Some of the prices people start out at I think must be smoking something. I am definitely picking up on who is there to share their wealth (or debt, LOL) & the ones that are trying to grab a fast buck. In my opinion, the ones that are there to share their wealth are the good hearted ones that I know I would never need to worry about.

lalalandwi: What people price their product at in any auction and what others will pay is what it is.
What plant is so tender it can't be shipped now when it was advertised to be shipped this month from the seller?

    Julia

  • lalalandwi

Hi Julia, of course it is is what it is. It is, is what people are willing to pay for it. I see a lot get passed by because the price is too high. Seems to me that when those exact culivars are set at a much lower price, the buyers decide what it is worth, not the other way around. Most of the time you will see it get up to that price anyway. The sellers that put it in lower to start with give you a sense of feeling they have nothing to lose. It's like here this is what I got that is extra, anyone want it? Instead of the feeling of what the seller values it to be & won't take anything less for then what they got into it to start with & in a lot of cases more so. It gives ME the feeling that they are in it to make a fast buck & go into it with the mentality of making money exclusively. The ones that are out for just the money, I can certainly see them skimping to make a few extra bucks. The overall sense of greediness makes me leary.

Not sure if mentioning what these are will give away the sellers info. I'm not here to ruin anyone's reputation, just to get a better understanding of why this is going on because it makes ZERO sense. If & when I get them might be another story.

Lalalandwi -- There are a few sellers on the LA right now that (in my opinion) are asking outlandish prices for their daylilies, and for single fans, no less! It's easy for me to just skip over all those sellers' offerings because I believe they're unreasonable.

I do feel bad, however, for those newer buyers who might not know the fair value for those daylilies and might purchase them anyway. It never hurts to compare prices, either through the Eureka guide or by searching online for current prices.

Thanks Debra for the list. Oldfool is on there now & seems like 1 of the good people. A lot of those people I haven't seen yet. Wonder if it is just because I'm new & only sell in spring?

    lalalandwi:
I can understand your disappointment with some sellers on LA. Yes, there are ones as Maximus says who have very high prices for their DL's but I too just ignore those as I would ignore any seller on any site with an extremely high price. Low priced dl's are only low until you tack on the shipping and you have spent more than the daylily was.
I check Ebay, LA, alot of the sites mentioned here on GW as well as just googling for a particular daylily I want and see what comes up and then I decide what I can afford to pay.
I like to try new sellers since I always seem to find a "gem" worth doing repeat business with. I'm not afraid of sellers in the South as I was once a bit afraid to try. I am still skeptical of California growers but maybe I'll get over that as well one day.
I'd post who I buy from on the auction sites but then you might be bidding against me one day ;-).
Best advice. Stick to what you can afford and don't get caught up in the frenzy.
Good luck. I'm sure you'll find some great buys.

friesfan1: If you use an account like gmail, hotmail or yahoo you shouldn't have a problem getting your responses. If your using your ISP's email account, then possibly they are blocking or dumping it in your spam or trash folder.

    Hi Julia,
I re-registered with gmail today. I also told him that
I had used my other address.

I contacted my ISP provider about missing emails this
past week. They have never gotten back to me. I am thinking
that MY ISP provider may be the problem. I am looking into
it. I also registered with the Tinker website auctions, and
    have not gotten a response.

I hope it is just my ISP causing the problems, at least I
know I am not being ignored. Then, I will be mad at
my provider , whom I am OFTEN mad at! grrrr lol

Oh, and I do have an ebay account, they have some nice
offerings there. I have only had one negative experience
buying plants from sellers on ebay.

    Thanks,

Yep, I was right!! My 2 '08 intros that took so long to get to me were definitely used for hybridizing! The seeds are now being sold on the LA & both of them were used as pod parents multiple times. My best interest, HA!! More like his best interest. I might as well dig them up & bring them in for winter now. I can't imagine a '08 intro getting established enough to be strong enough to set pods on to start with. He has probably weakened it enough it wouldn't make it through winter. His credibility is out the window! I am sooo mad that he lied to me!!!

When did you actually plant them? Sorry to hear of your bad experiences on the LA.

Hi Rita, I planted them the day I received them, 09/15. What do you think? I'm not so sure after reading the thread about skimpy roots from ebay & finding out the majority of roots die anyway. I'm afraid it just doesn't have enough go-go now to produce what it needs to in order to survive the winter.

On top of that, I know I won't be seeing it to it's true potential next summer. I know most newly planted ones don't, but am really afraid I'm not even going to get a chance to see it bloom.

It has been in theground almost a month now. Iwould not dig it up. You will problably do more harm than good if you dig them up now.

The roots will get established pods or no pods and the fans should do fine for you. Were I think the plant will suffer is in bloom production. But that also depends on how many pods were set. Between heavily setting pods and digging and shipping it, I would think your chances of bloom next summer are slim.

Of course there is always the chance that it was only a pod or two, in which case I don't know about bloom.

I would contact the seller and express the concerns you have and see what the seller has to say. It can't hurt and its better than getting fustrated and wondering.
Also, it doesn't mean because they are selling seeds that your plant was the only dl of this kind the seller has that he/she may have used for hybridizing.
Just some thoughts for what its worth.....

Thanks Rita!! You really put my mind at ease!! What you are saying makes perfect sense. I'd rather have a plant survive than to not see any blooms. Don't get me wrong, I want to see the blooms more than anything, but at least I would have a live plant. I will leave it be because I want to do what is best for it's survival.

Julia, I'm so upset that the jerk lied to me, I don't think I can keep my cool right now to email him. Even when I cool down, I don't think I can come off appropriate because he lied. I will eventually, but I need a few weeks to cool off. I'd much rather be more professional about the situation & right now my emotions are ruling. Not sure if you caught the fact that they are '08 intros & what you are suggesting is that he bought multiple plants? Also, this explains why he wouldn't ship them with the initial plant...he was waiting for the pods to ripen. I've seen other LA folks state in their auctions as to whether or not the plant has been used for hybridizing. Apparently it is a big enough deal to say so.
