The voles returned, and so did the vole catcher

I started to see evidence of voles again in my yard. Last year, they had destroyed several roses and several of my prized daylilies. Their tunnels and holes are giveaways to their presence.

Last year some still unidentified creature began digging in the yard at night, It didn't bother or dig up plants, just the vole holes and tunnels, and the voles disappeared. I wanted to buy wantever it was a steak.

Well, the voles were returning, and it came back too, my unknown creature friend. The rose garden (first target of the voles) shows evidence of very through cultivation and pest removal again. It doesn't tear up or dig up the plants, just the vole tunnels old and new. And it appears to meticulously investigate the entire area.

I am so happy to have it back. We suspect the big raccoon that showed up on our deck but was very skittish and ran away to be the vole killer, but don't know for sure. It seems to have cleared the area of voles again.
