I'm going to see Guy Pierce speak...

Hi all! I've been away from the forum for way too long! Very busy. Any rate, I'm sure you have all heard that the Stamiles are retiring & Guy Pierce is taking over Floyd Cove. My local dl society is meeting today & Guy is speaking. I know this is late & should have posted sooner, but does anyone want me to ask him anything in particular?

Hope all is well with you guys!!

Would you please ask him when we will see his website updated to include the spring 2010 introductions and when their catalog will be mailed?

Thanks

Dale

I'm getting ready to walk out the door...I'm so excited! I will most certainly find out for you!!

We're all going out to dinner afterwards, so if I don't get a chance to post back tonight, I will first thing in the morning.

Bad news...he cancelled! I'm hoping for a reschedule soon! I was so excited to see what he has in store for Flyod Cove. I did have the opportunity to see what is coming up in the fall Ahs publication & looks very exciting! I'll get back to you all when he does reschedule.

Good news...I have a scape coming up!! Woohoo! Was out watering this morning & literally screamed out loud when I saw it! I was over at one of the most incredible local dl society member's house last nite & she has a scape too! Blooms in November is nuts! I'll post pics when they bloom.

Bummer! I hope there was a good excuse for cancelling. Was there not time to let people know before they got to the meeting? The Fall Journal is already out, and that ad you're talking about is on the inside cover. There were some nice things on it.

Well, you didn't have to go to Florida to get a scape. We've had them here and I keep cutting them off. LOL.
Poor things don't know when to quit and go to sleep.

I had scapes pop up everywhere in October, had to cut them off....BOO HOO.....better for the plant since our sporadic freezes would have killed the bloom off anyway. It was really tough to do since the DEER came in and ate everything that wasn't fenced in this year! Between the floods and freezes of 2006 and now the deer in 2009 I sure am ready to see the gardens in bloom!!!! New fence going up soon to protect my newest garden plot with more than 500 cultivars in it!

I did find out that his new 2010 intros will be up on the website in 2 weeks. I can't wait to find out who some of the parents are of those fabulous seedlings I saw!

I think the most heartbreaking story of cutting off scapes comes from my good buddy Tobin. He's cutting off scapes of seedlings he has never seen before!! I told him if it was me, I'd be digging them up & bringing them inside to bloom!! He has patience of a saint! No way could I wait til next summer to see them bloom!!

It is a good thing to cut scapes at this time of year because there is no loss. The blooms will be distorted and not representative of what the seedlings will look like under normal conditions. Your good buddy did the right thing and didn't get himself upset at the doggy blooms. They will be great next year!
