Let us remember the many who gave their lives for the freedom we live today. To all my fellow GWs, please wear a poppy. And plant one if you can. For Dad and all the others who foght for our freedom, Thank You and I love you.

RE: Lest we forget

Hi Ginny, Thanks for the very nice reminder of thanks and honor of vets. Looks like the poppies are usually worn on Memorial Day.

Here is a link that might be useful: Vets Day FAQ

Not here. November 11th Always Armistice Day. :) Had a great lunch with Dad, my DH and sister and there were other vets there all decked out in their medals. One family of 3 generations! My oldest brother has all of Dad's medals; 7 or 8 of them.

I guess the U in fought went into our future! :)

RE: Lest we forget

Thanks for this post and the reminder that we should never forget the sacrifices so many have made for our freedom.

My son, grandbaby, mom and I visited Dad today at the nursing home. He was looking very well and the physical therapist said he is doing wonderfully with standing and trying to take some steps although he is in some pain.
I added a couple of photos of him over on my latest post
if anyone is interested. God bless our VETERANS!!!

Forgot to say.....

I forgot to say that Dad was in the Navy. He is my favorite veteran! This was him when he first enlisted. He was SO young and baby-faced!

Your dad did really look young when he went into the navy.so did my uncle who was drafted at 19yrs old.I was raised up with my uncle and thought he was my brother till I was about 8 yrs old,he took me every where he went and took care of me.he just made 86 yrs old and still lives in Illinois.Yea, we was lucky, he was shot twice and almost lost a arm but, we got him back alive.so many never came back home to their loved ones.

OMG Celeste! Just a baby face! Dad too was in the Navy and he was also quite a gardener. Dad was, I think 21 when he entered the Canadian Navy or as he puts it "just a young whipper snipper". So good to hear your dad is on the mend. He'll be back in the garden by spring I'll bet! :)

Jean ~ Dad entered the Navy on his own but there were so many who were drafted. They still gave us their all. I'm so glad the three of us here were among the lucky ones who got ours back!

I can't imagine my life without Dad in it! He is just as lovable and silly as he was everyday of my life even though I have to help him get dressed and shaved! I have pics of him in his uniform on his bedroom wall and one of his whole crew on the HMCS Calgary. When my husband and I moved here to care for Dad, I redid his bedroom all in a navy theme which included pictures I found of him at the Naval Museum of Calgary. I made him a quilt and pillows and curtains and he has lighthouses and ship accessories all over the room. He is my favorite veteran! :)

PS Apparently, poppy day in Canada is the same as Memorial Day in the US. :) I shall have to REMEMBER that. :)

And I forgot my camera today again!
